Advanced Clinical Practitioner and Independent Prescriber

Claire Tanner is an Extended Scope Physiotherapist, qualified in 1999. Prior to this Claire did a Sports Science Degree.  Claire have specialises in musculoskeletal injuries since past 15 years and has worked in New Zealand and for the Army mainly at Sandhurst, more recently she was running the Musculoskeletal service for the North of Hampshire.

Claire currently work in the outpatient orthopaedic department in Basingstoke Hospital as an extended scope practitioner where she see patients referred by their GP’s for musculoskeletal conditions.  As an extended scope practitioner, she diagnoses patient’s condition, administers injections (steroid and hyaluronic acid) and also requests appropriate diagnostics i.e. MRI, X-rays, bloods and refers on where appropriate.

Claire also prescribes pain medication and is training in diagnostic ultrasound.  She also lists patients for Orthopaedic operations such as total hip replacements or carpal tunnel releases.  She is also currently training to carry out spinal injections in theatre under x-ray guidance.  Claire works closely with the pain clinic.

Sports wise, Claire has competed at Gymnastics, Trampolining, Salsa and Argentine tango and is still actively involved with all these sports.  She horse rides when possible and is currently crew on board a 45’ yacht which they race in the Solent.  She has recently joined the army reserves medical core and is hoping to do more work in this area.
